How to clean your mattress?

Have you ever had your breakfast while reading girls’ magazines or eaten some snacks while watching Netflix in your bed? If the answer is yes, then you must have experienced the nightmare moment when you spill the coffee or tea onto the mattress.

It’s a typical mess, and what is worse to find a stain in your newly acquired mattress. It can make you go nuts!
The good news, however, is that we have the tips to make mattress cleaning easier. With the right tools and knowledge of some basic steps you will forget about the challenges of mattress cleaning and you will never be stressed about it anymore.

So how to get stains out of a mattress?

Before you start, tidy up your mattress by first removing everything from your bed including pillows, linens, sheets, and protector. Quick tip: you can check the manufacturer’s label to see how to clean all of the bed stuff in the right way. Then you can start to handle the mattress.

1.Vacuum the mattress

The first step is to vacuum your mattress with a wide brush attachment to clean the top of the mattress. Use the long upholstery nozzle to vacuum the edges, sides, and corners.

2.Get stains out

The experienced mom must know that soda and vinegar are always our good friends for housekeeping.
There are typically 3 types of stains when it comes to mattresses: blood, urine, and other bodily fluids. The urine stain is the most stubborn one.
Sprinkle a generous dusting of baking soda over the entire surface of the mattress, gently rub it in with a scrub brush, so it gets into the fabric where the stink lives. Let the baking soda sit for at least 30 minutes before proceeding to the next step. The longer it’s on the mattress, the more it will absorb and clean.
If the urine stain is new, you can use the vinegar to clean and neutralize the odor. Try to spray vinegar straight onto the stain and blot again; you might find some difference.

3.Flip and repeat

It’s better to flip your mattress and repeat the cleaning steps as above unless you have a pillow top mattress or your mattress can not be flipped over.
Here is a recommendation for the easy to flip mattress from Sweetnight. From the moment you pull your Sweetnight mattress out of the box, you have two mattress options on your hands. Each side has a different level of firmness. It is soft on the top side and firm on the other side. Try one side, and if that isn’t comfortable, simply flip your memory foam mattress to the side that best suits your needs.

4.Prevent the stains

If you are too lazy to clean your mattress, you can use some protection on your new mattress. For example, you can purchase a water-proof protector, pillow top mattress topper, or mattress pads and covers that you can use to protect just the top of the mattress from spills and dirt.

Cleaning the matress twice a year should be good for your health, but it doesn’t mean that you can use your favorite mattress forever. How often should you replace your mattress? The lifespan of a mattress should be 5 years, so you need to replace your mattress every 5 years for a comfortable sleep and for the health of your back.
